On February 11th, Carey Toth, held the first official roller skating class for youth at the new Flood City Youth Fitness Academy Arena and Roller Skating Rink. We had approximately 20 kids in attendance
To convert the 40ft. X 60ft. arena into a skating rink, the walls were padded around the entire room, the floors were filled and painted where needed, the center was made into a training/break area, benches and shelves were made and finally the floor taped and signs hung with safety rules.
Johnstown native, Carey (Eve’A Destruction) has played roller derby for 9 years. Starting in Windber for 5 years, she is currently a member of Steel City Roller Derby in Pittsburgh, PA. “Since I started skating, all I’ve thought about is having a place where I could skate, not only for practice and fun, but where I could teach people of all ages how amazing roller skating is and have them fall in love with it too. “
“It’s truly a blessing seeing the smiles on their faces & the fun they are having. They are interested and ready to learn & I’m so proud that they are all willing to try something new!”
Roller skating classes are held on Mondays and Thursdays every week from 4-5pm. Youth learn the rules of the rink, safety for themselves and others and how to skate. Most importantly, “I just want the kids to enjoy skating and have fun!”
