If your child is interested in music or you are looking for a program where they can develop their musical talents in the Johnstown area, the Flood City Youth Fitness Academy's Exercise the Arts Music Program offers a class that will help them in their musical journey.
The Basic Music Theory Course helps students understand how simple it is to read, write, and play musical instruments. The course was developed and is led by Mr. Cris Ward,
Mr. Ward says his musical adventure started off as a gift of love to bang on table tops and making beats with is mouth says his mother Mittie Jean Ward usually at dinner time and as many have said the noise was trying at first.
His love for music began when as a child growing up in Philadelphia, his cousin Johnnie Croom who became the music director for Boyz II Men and Aalyah Dana Haughton sent him his first drum set when he was 10. Through the years he’s played the trumpet, violin, drums, bass and piano.
The Basic Music Theory course is designed to bring a greater understanding of music and instrumentation to beginners that never played a musical instrument as well as to those who have some understanding and experience in music. Instruments that are available at the Exercise the Arts Music Studio are bass, drums, piano, guitar and computer based music.
The course will build up their confidence knowing that they can accomplish what they put there mind to with practice and consistency. This course will help them realize what seems hard isn’t hard at all.
The course outline includes; understanding the music staff, of music notation by the relationship of letters and numbers. To have an understanding of the instrument (s) that the student chooses to play. Also timing, tuning and tone.
The motto of the course is “Never give up!” Each student is encouraged not to give up on something that brings peace. A great song can inspire a person that is in the worse place to have joy again.
The music classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday during the school year from 5pm to 6pm. To enroll in the Basic Music Theory Course or to learn more, contact Deacon Jeffrey Wilson, program director at (814) 539-0164 or (814) 243-3350.
